What you need to know before flying to Pakistan

in a nutshell

Stunning scenery and ancient roads

Pakistan is perhaps one of the most spectacular countries on the earth, but it remains to this day one of the least explored. Here the mighty Himalayas dominate the horizon, a picturesque mountain landscape for avid hikers and climbers. The mighty Karakoram Highway is a must-see; not only is it the heart of the ancient Silk Road, but it also serves as the crossroads between the Indian Subcontinent, the Middle East and Central Asia. Its wild frontiers remain largely unchanged since their Mughal days. You’ll also find colourful, ancient cities packed with cultural wonders.

A little bit of everything

In Pakistan, you’ll find magnificent mosques, serene Buddhist monasteries and impossible forts perched on craggy mountain peaks. The people are famously hospitable. As the financial capital, Karachi holds the title of ‘largest metropolis, but plan to visit Islamabad for a more relaxed vibe and Lahore, a historic city known for its bustling bazaars, exotic gardens, majestic architecture and incredible museums.

One of the world’s best-kept secrets

Although beaches are not the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about Pakistan, the Makran Coastal Highway boasts some stunning stretches of sand. With intrepid outdoor pursuits and a vibrant culture and history, book your cheap flights to Pakistan with Netflights now.

Note: It’s recommended that you check travel warnings for your destination before you travel for regional restrictions.

When to go

There are four seasons in Pakistan: winter (December-February) is cool and dry; spring (March-May) is hot and dry; summer (June-September) is hot and rainy; and the ‘retreating monsoon’ autumn period (October-November) is cool and wet. The beginning and duration of these seasons varies throughout the country, so it’s worth researching in more detail before you travel.

Pakistan’s peak travel season occurs during the summer months. Be sure to book in advance to find economy seats for this time. May to October tends to be the best time to visit as the weather is comfortable and temperate. The summer holidays are full of cultural events around the country. It is also the ideal trekking season with the northern regions more accessible to hikers and climbers. However, the high summer temperatures in the south can make travel difficult. Islamabad is best seen when the temperatures are cooler, sometime between November and May.

Because tourism is not as established in Pakistan as it is in other countries, ‘shoulder seasons’ do not exist. Travel is dictated by the weather more often than not, and with such diverse landscapes and numerous micro-climates, travel bargains can be found year-round, especially when you book in advance with Netflights.

Airports and airlines

Netflights can help you compare Pakistan flights without entering specific dates or destinations. With all the options on display and a willingness to be flexible in your travel plans, you’re sure to pick up a good deal. Make sure to book well in advance for more route options and better rates.

The busiest and most popular airports are located in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, although six other international airports are in operation (Quetta, Gawadar, Peshawar, Sialkot, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan and Faisalabad). Keep in mind that prices will be higher around the main religious festivals and during the summer.

Airlines offering flights from the United Kingdom to Pakistan include Pakistan International Airlines, Air Berlin, Air France, British Airways and Aer Arann. With departures available from London, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Birmingham, finding a flight that fits your schedule and price has never been easier.
